Matthew Perry reveals the surprising reason he dumped Julia Roberts for Michael Douglas
The 35-year-old actor is reportedly seeking a pay raise to $8 million and is reportedly asking for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But his reasons for leaving his wife of 17 years are just as stunning as the reasons for his marriage.
“I think Michael is an incredible human being and I think he should be rewarded for his extraordinary work over the decades that he has dedicated his career to helping children,” Perry said on his podcast.
“I’m not going to get into any of that.”
The reason Perry dropped Julia for Michael is because he was tired of the “tiresome” media coverage. He described how his wife was a “bitter, bitchy, negative woman” who never liked the press.
But as far as how his wife of 17 years felt about him, Perry said, “I would say that Julia felt like we needed a little more time to figure out that we were a couple that would never grow old, a relationship that wasn’t defined by sex, a relationship where I wanted to be there for her and there was nothing else that I was interested in. So she had a pretty difficult time with that.”
Perry said he wants to remain close with Julia’s daughter Mia, who reportedly moved out of their apartment at the end of last year after dating her brother Cameron, 21.
“I’m a huge Michael fan, I really am, but I always thought Mia was his, and I think it became clear to Julia that was not the case, and so the love that we had for each other was not going to get tested,” Perry said.
This is not the first time Perry has spoken out about his split with Julia. Perry recently told Us Weekly that the media never gave him enough credit for how hard he worked for his big break in movies.
