There have been two great love stories this year in the world of daytime soap operas, and both of them came from the same place — London. The first was the love affair between Kate Langton and the Prince of Wales. After the news broke that their relationship was on the rocks in mid-December, the tabloids descended and were practically everywhere until the final two weeks of the year, when the pair could finally be heard on the wireless. The prince came back into the fold with a bit more class and class, but no apologies were made for his behavior. And the British public loved him for it. His romance with Kate was a love story. There was no question of Kate’s being a gold digger.

The second great love story in this year’s soap operas was between Balthazar Omelet and the Prince of Wales. The day after the announcement that Prince Charles’s marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles had fallen apart, Balthazar and his family were hit with a bombshell that almost destroyed them. The Prince of Wales had been the center of attention, everyone was asking for his autograph, which was great (he signed it at the same time he gave Kate’s autograph), but he came back to London and was the center of attention again.
