They came up with plans to prevent suicide and tackle climate change. Then on Day 4 of the reality TV challenge came a final twist: the contestants were asked to walk the red carpet on an actual night in New York City rather than a fake one.
The theme was all about getting to know each other, and the contestants were able to do that as they walked the carpet for “The Glee Project” on Wednesday night. It turns out the red carpet walk really was in NYC, at the Javits Center.
This was the first time any of the Glee cast has been to that venue, and the first time for the contestants to walk down the red carpet at the Javits Center, which is where the New York State-hosted Glee Live concerts and other events take place.
The first time the Glee cast walked the red carpet was in 2011 during the Live Tour, which was more a celebration of the group’s success rather than its premiere. This time around, it was as an official part of the show.
“Our first time walking the red carpet was in 2011 when we shot Live on the road. We had come in and filmed the show,” executive producer and host Ryan Murphy told E! News backstage. “We walked the red carpet. We had to do a photo. And then that was it. The rest of the time we were just backstage waiting. And walking down the red carpet was actually on the same night.”
It seems like the cast really does have some good connections to NYC, as they also brought along members of the Glee fan club.
“You guys, my wife and I, from day one, we’ve dreamed about these things. So we always wanted to know more and what the inside story was and where they came from. So we wanted to learn as much about them as we could and bring them all the way from Tennessee, and we brought them to New York so we could take pictures with them.”
