Endorsement: Yes on L.A. County Measure C for regulated cannabis sales by the end of June.
Reasons to support: The initiative allows dispensaries to open without a physical presence in the L.A. area. For now, medical cannabis dispensaries are expected to move into spaces vacated during the construction of the new Veterans Hall and the future L.A. County Sheriff’s building. Dispensaries will have the ability to sell dried flowers, but it will be harder for dispensaries to sell seeds without a physical presence in the community.
The initiative states that the board will be empowered, within 30 days, to approve new rules. A spokesperson says that the board has not yet approved rules and regulations.
Opposition: Proponents are not expected to gain significant sway on the board.
Reasons to oppose: This is an initiative with a lot of questions yet to be answered. It is not immediately clear how many dispensaries would open and if they would be regulated. Dispensaries are required to have licenses by the state before they can open.
