Having problems activating your California gas tax refund debit card? Try again now! We’ve found a solution.
Gas tax refunds are on their way this week and the California Department of Revenue has warned you not to use gas tax refund debit cards. This could be the result of a glitch – or a glitch that will be patched in the future.
We’re hoping to have the problem fixed as soon as possible – but in the meantime, California Gas Tax Refund debit cards may not work in your area yet.
The DOR warned all gas tax refund debit card users of possible problems because of a glitch in the state’s processing system that may cause the card to stop working. The card also did not function properly in California for all purchases made in June – June 16, 2017.
In addition, you may find that the refund card will not transfer funds into your bank account even though the card has been activated. You may also see a message on the card saying “you are charged for this transaction”.
So far the DOR reports that the problem has been resolved, although refunds for July purchases may not have started yet.
If you do try to use a gas tax refund debit card, the DOR advises that you should be sure you have the card number of your spouse, child, or parent that you want to use with your refund as well as a phone number you can call or email in case you have questions or problems using the card.
If you don’t have the correct number, you should call DOR customer service at the phone number on the card. If you have questions about the use of the card, you can call customer service at 1-800-829-4478 or click here to visit the DOR website to find the phone number and address.
And while you’re waiting for these repairs to go into effect, you can continue enjoying all the other benefits of making gas tax refund payments without the inconvenience of using the gas tax debit card.
With the help of the DOR, you can buy fuel tax to avoid paying the $0.25 state gas tax that now applies to most purchases. You just need to pay for the fuel at the pump.
Of course, you are still required to buy
